Finally, I choose the layer underneath

The unlined construction is why I bought these. I already know which base layer works for me and didn't want another liner deciding that for me. The outer shorts move easily over it, and the waistband felt secure without needing constant adjustment. A simple idea that fits my actual preferences rather well.

Not interested in racing, still useful

At 67 I alternate walking and jogging depending on the day. The stretch makes a longer step comfortable and the waistband doesn't feel fussy. Pleased to find straightforward shorts that suit both activities without looking as though I'm dressed for a competition.

From the park to the shops

These are the least complicated thing I wear at the weekend. Black, comfortable and easy to move in. The zipped pocket is handy for a key when I'm walking as well as running.

For warm weather travel

I wanted running shorts that could also work for a walk around town. The plain black look is easy, and the quick drying material is useful when packing light. I use my own layer underneath because these are unlined. That arrangement suits me better than carrying separate shorts for every part of the day.

Enough give for the climb

The fabric stretches with a longer stride on the uphill sections. I didn't feel the outer short resisting across my thighs.

A small zip preference

Comfortable waistband and the black colour works with everything. My key stayed tucked in the rear pocket. I'd prefer a slightly longer zip pull for grabbing with sweaty fingers, but the shorts themselves were easy to run in.

Storage for the small essentials

I only carried a key and a card, so I can't speak for a heavily loaded pocket. For that simple setup, the rear zip was reassuring and the shorts felt balanced while moving.

Did not expect to love this short

Bought as a joke from my running group. Ended up wearing them three times the first week. The fit is genuinely flattering — not too short, not too saggy.

A waistband I can leave alone

Set it comfortably before leaving and didn't keep pulling at it during the run. That is surprisingly high on my list of requirements.

HIIT-proof

Burpees, jumping lunges, all the box-jump nonsense. These shorts don't ride up between your thighs like some performance shorts do. Cooling, bright, simple.

Pocket placement could be better

Love the shorts, the fabric is exactly as advertised. Knocking one star because the side pocket sits a bit high for my preference — phone bounces against my hip rather than my thigh. Still a great short.

Black shorts done sensibly

No colour matching required. Just get dressed and go.

Unlined was the selling point

I get on well with a particular pair of briefs and dislike being forced into a different liner every time I buy shorts. ORUUN's approach makes sense for me. I can keep the layer I trust and use a light, flexible outer over it. On a warm run the whole setup felt less bulky than some of my old combinations. Worth understanding the construction before ordering, because that's the reason I like them.

Better than my Path Projects

I've been wearing Path Projects Sykes for years. These are lighter, dry faster, and the pocket layout is honestly more thoughtful. Not knocking Path — they're great — but ORUUN is now in my rotation.

The key has a home

Rear zip pocket. House key. No checking every few minutes that it is still there.

Made for 38°C

Did a steady-state 12k in 38°C peak Adelaide heat. The fabric genuinely works — you can feel the airflow on your legs at speed. Recovery felt better than my usual hot-weather kit.

90+ minute waistband test passed

My non-negotiable for marathon shorts is the waistband — most dig in by 1h30. These don't, even after a 2-hour long run. Pocket actually holds my phone without the dreaded thigh-bounce, the unlined cut lets me wear my own compression underneath, and the bright green pops on early-morning loops when I want drivers to see me. Best running shorts I've owned in a decade.

Practical, well-made, ages well

I'm 45. I've owned every running short worth owning. These are well-constructed: clean stitching, durable waistband elastic, pocket with proper bar tacks at the stress points. Will buy again when these wear out.

Trail-ready

Took these on a 15k trail loop. Pockets held a Maurten gel + key without flapping, fabric didn't snag on branches, drainage was decent through a stream crossing. Solid trail short.
